First Tracks was our first release and showcased local contemporary and traditional performers active in the folk clubs and festivals in the early 1970s.

Its open minded mix of bluegrass, contemporary and traditional music laid a solid foundation for Forest Tracks. Funded by the generosity of individuals and local clubs and festivals, “First Tracks” fell into place with musical contributions from a number of people appearing on the local folk scene at that time: the late great Ted Duckett - New Forest bones player, stepdancer and scene stealer supreme; the late Dave Williams - the powerhouse behind much of the local folk scene; Harmonious Blacksmith – a four piece contemporary folk group; Dixie Ramblers – following in the American bluegrass tradition; and Helen Woodall - solo songs in a beautiful voice.

The sessions were recorded in September 1972 in a makeshift studio in Hythe where the Cutty Wren Folk Club used to meet on Sunday evenings.

Originally issued as an LP in 1972.
