51 tracks over 150 minutes Re-issued 2005
Forest Tracks is proud to bring you the re-issue of Folk Songs from Hampshire and Dorset, released with a 32pp booklet and 19 extra tracks especially recorded in 2005, to celebrate the centenary of the first Folk Songs collected in 1905 by George Gardiner and Henry and Robert Hammond in Hampshire and Dorset respectively.
The songs on these CDs have been taken from: the four EFDS Songs Books selected from the manuscripts of the Hammonds and Gardiner by Frank Purslow : Marrow Bones, The Wanton Seed, The Constant Lovers and The Foggy Dew; The Penguin Book of English Folk Songs and The Everlasting Circle
It would be impossible to comment on all the songs... suffice it to say that there are many well-known songs and many less familiar, and the quality of the singing is very good throughout. I have no qualms in recommending this package to all who are interested in the background and performance of traditional songs from the south of England" Colin Andrews - What's Afoot, Devon's folk magazine
Originally issued as two LPs - Hampshire in 1974, Dorset in 1975
