Calypsos, carnival tunes and popular music.

The steelpan is reckoned to be one of the most recently invented of musical instruments, having originated during the forties. Two decades later the Harbour Lites themselves came into being following a meeting in a Southampton pub.

Since the band began in 1967, the personnel has changed somewhat, but four of the original members remain (Hilary, Ted, Fitzroy and Theo). Through the years the band’s music has steadily improved and with it their popularity has increased. Since then they have played in a wide variety of venues, appeared on television, and broadcast on local radio.

Gordon Benn – Tenor
Hilary Forbes – Bass
Fitzroy Small – Double Seconds
Ted Joseph – Double Guitar
Alrick Joseph – Double Guitar
Theo MacKenzie – Drums, Maraccas
Albert Thom – Bongos

Originally issued as an LP in 1977.
