Brian Hooper & Jeff Henry have been popular and familiar faces on the South’s folk scene since the 70s.They are both Fo’c’sle folk club regulars.

Brian and Jeff also sing together as a duo and their combined vocal and instrumental talents are well showcased here on Southampton in Song.

Throughout the years, Southampton has played a major part in English history. From here, Henry V marched off to Agincourt through its West Gate, the Pilgrim Fathers sailed to the New World, the Titanic began its fateful maiden voyage, and for a while it basked in the title of "Gateway to the Empire".

What Brian and Jeff have tried to do on the recording is to reflect this rich heritage in music. They have drawn upon the songs of mostly local composers, to try and paint a picture of the city through the years, from the sacking of Southampton in 1338 up to the demise of the 'Floating Bridge' in 1977, and through to the present day.
